Bangladesh police storm restaurant to rescue hostages

Bangladeshi police stormed a Dhaka restaurant on Saturday to free 20 hostages. Explosions and gunshots are heard as  security forces have launched operation against the terrorsts after 10 hour standoff.


Police have rescued some people, Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin said.

Around 7:30 in the morning on Saturday, security forces moved into premises in the Gulshan diplomatic zone and five hostages. It included army personnel with automatic weapons and at least seven armored vehicles. Several ambulances were on standby.

At least 5 bodies; 12 hostages rescued.

The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility for a hostage takeover Friday at a restaurant popular with foreigners in Dhaka.
